HappyBirthday Emily
Happy Birthday to Emily Pickich
and Hello to Lauren
A very happy Emily with some of her gifts --- in spite of Katrina !
Below photo shows the Pickich family – Emily’s mother, Casey is in the left side of the photo with camera, birthday girl, Emily is in the lower middle portion of the photo wearing pink blouse and white shorts, Emily’s father, Ryan is wearing the grey shirt and is holding the Pickich’s other daughter Lauren, Emily’s Aunt Nancy is seated at the end of the table in the dark pink blouse.
The below photo depicts the volunteers from Navapache Regional Medical Center in Showlow, Az. Pass Christian really owes a lot to these volunteers and also the other volunteers who have done so much to help those affected by this terrible tragedy. This caring event not only touched the Pickich family – but also everyone who heard the story. Emily may now remember her 6th birthday as a happy event, thanks to the volunteers that made an outstanding effort to sponsor Emily’s special birthday party.
Casey and Ryan Pickich and daughters Emily and Lauren lost everything but the structure of their home in the Timber Ridge area of Pass Christian. On visits to the distribution center located north of the old Fox’s Den on Menge Ave, Ryan had mentioned to the personnel who had befriended Emily and Lauren that September 15th was Emily’s 6th birthday. Result --- the personnel invited the Pickich family to their tent city for birthday cake on the evening of the 15th.
When they arrived, they found that it was more than just a mere cake – Emily was showered with gifts and the Pickich family was totally overwhelmed by all of the residents of the tent city who turned out to make Emily’s birthday a happy event in the midst of such tragedy.
John Hodges has so many photos of the destruction – that he decided to submit some photos that show the resiliency of humans as a nice touch.
Below, is an e-mail from one of the many volunteers that have come to the Coast -- not only to make a difference physically – but also psychologically. Volunteer Ruth is with a group of medical personnel who have journeyed to Pass Christian area to make a difference.

Subject: Emily's party
Good Morning, John!
Emily's party was a bright spot for all of us, too. Something we will remember the rest of our lives. If you mention our group (Navapache Regional Medical Center in Showlow, Az.) please also mention the church group from down on the beach, the folks here at the distribution center, and others I may have forgotten. It was a group effort, and our absolute pleasure to offer something good in the midst of so much sadness.
You folks are going to be ok. It's difficult to see that now from where you stand amidst the rubble, but you're strong and resilient. Take care and God bless!
